Summer's Here...

Summer arrived. It began with sleeping late. No deadlines. Kids riding bikes and laughing outside. No deadlines. Later bedtimes. No homework. It began moving towards... Loud arguments. Millions of paper cups all over my kitchen. Doors slamming ALL.DAY.LONG. Kids inside my house all the time, no quiet ever. Meals needing to be prepared endlessly. Mess everywhere. I began to feel like I was going a little nuts. It was only day 4 of summer. So I got smart and called for some professional help. Cleaning help that is. Rosie used to clean weekly when the twins were babies. Sadly I had to give her up. Every once in a while (not often enough) I get desperate and call for help. She came on Tuesday. She arrived at 10am and her and I worked all day and I do mean all day and got my house in shape. I shooed my kids outside. Rosie left and I sat down and felt at peace again. Best money spent in a long long time!

Unfortunately the night before while at the gym I did something weird to my back. Not being a very normal person I ignored the pain and swept, vacuumed and carried many large heavy baskets of laundry up and down and down and up. So by night I was in pain. Today having my priorities straight I tried to rest it (it was killing me). I did everything I could to not lift, bend or push anything. Which proves difficult around my house. Tonight was girls night and I did not want to miss out. I have priorities. So in pain and very sore I visited 8 home show houses, all beautiful and inspiring. Most of them I focused abnormal amounts of time on the chairs thinking of the relief they would provide my painful back. Again I have my priorities. Ha ha.

Loud, messy or tiring I still love summer. I love seeing my kids smile. The freedom. No big deadlines. We just need to work on reducing our paper cups, closing doors quietly, and outside play time from 2-3pm. Thank goodness for Arts in the park (mon and wed 10-12 for Jacob and Lindsey and swimming lessons).

How is your summer going?

School ends on the 17th here. So I'm not looking forward to what you explain. Of course the no deadline thing sounds pretty darn good!

Summer? What summer? It feels like early spring here. Emma's last day was yesterday, and Grace ends today. I'm looking forward to some clear skies and sunshine next week when we are in Utah!

I'm sorry about your back. So glad you spent your money so well! :)

Summer blows...I am already counting down the days until school starts.

I do like the lazy freedom of summer though. It is nice to not have to get kids bathed and dressed and homework in backpacks and out the door every morning...

Anyway...I hope your back feels better soon...

I'm envious of your maid!! Summer is great. I still remember sleeping in...ahh, youth! I hope your back feels better soon. Back pain is the worst!

I understand your pain.... Mine is sand coming in the house, kids fighting over stupid things, and constant "I want". It will get better! I love summer too.

Love summer, but the days are long! It's hard to find a constant string of things to do with a 2 year old that still naps twice a day and gas prices so high.

Hang in there, we'll get through it.

Have a great day!

We aren't out of school yet...I am dreading it in a way, beacuae of the lack f quiet...but I think I'll be able to keep up with the house more because I won't be running around constantly...wishful thinking? Perhaps...one can hope right?

we love rosie!! that's so great you could get some help. sometimes you need that for the MOTIVATION it gives you, too. i know for me a lot of time the house gets so overwhelming that i don't know where to start, so i just sit down on the couch and watch a movie. strangely, that doesn't get the house clean, though.

I love summer and hate it for the same reason. Emily is home and we don't have to worry about homework or being on time. I can also count on her to help out around the house a little more.

But at the same time Emily is home and Joe likes to tease her and make her scream.

I hope your back is feeling better today :)

I'm sorry about your back. That really sucks. Hope you're feeling better soon!
You forgot to mention the gazillion amounts of otter pops you go through and the sticky drips on the kitchen floor as they make their way outside...oh wait, that's at my house!:)

Ouch. I hope your back is better. Since my kids are all little, I can't relate to the school-age aspects of summer. BUT, I can say that I hate getting on my hands/knees all day to clean up after the twins! They are a mess!

Sounds about right. We go through way more dishes in the summer and the kids are always in and out the doors. It drives me crazy when they don't shut the door behind them- especially when the a/c is on!

I could totally relate. I love that we stay up late, eat ice cream in the back yard and sleep until 8 am (for my kids - that is sleeping in) BUT the endless "I'm hungry" and the amounts of clutter are about to make me nuts. I just said to a girlfriend on the phone that I wish I could hire a housekeeper once a week during the summer.
Bummer about your back - my neck gives me fits alot so I feel your pain.

It's summer? My kids are STILL ins school!

We have a busy summer planned though. They only have 7 weeks off. 3 of them have camps different weeks, then 2 weeks of swimming lessons, and another week of VBS. Then one week to get them ready for school. We still will not travel with the twins. We are giving it one more year!

I hope your summer chills out a little more. and your back feels better!

Oh! I forgot... LOVEd your 70 things.

Your dedication to weight loss this past year has really inspired me. I joined the Y 3 days ago. They FINALLY have child care for 6-10 yr olds this summer, so all my kids can go there now while I work out. I get 2 hrs by MYSELF, so I work out for an hour (just starting out) and then shower. It is WONDERFUL! and the boys love it!
