The perfect day...

Sorry for my absence. Last week was a whirlwind. We had activities everyday and every night. By the end of last week I felt like I was running a race with no break. I hope the rest of summer can slow down a bit. With all the kids at home I do doubt that.

Saturday we spent the day at the lake. This at the end of my week felt a little stressful because all I wanted was a day to do nothing. I guess I got what I asked for (without knowing it). The lake was relaxing and fun (we left the twins home with grandma and grandpa). At one point I was riding the jet ski (alone) with the wind racing by and I felt amazing. All the stresses of laundry, fighting children, and non stop activities were gone. I felt like me.

Jacob spent hours at the shore. This child amazes me by his ability to entertain himself with almost anything. It's really wonderful. Jacob was my jet ski pal and rode with only me. I enjoyed watching him learn to enjoy fast speeds and totally trust me. It was a bonding thing. His hair was so cool, as he rode in the wind his blond hair just stood straight up.

The kids just loved playing at the shore (cousins Cali, Jacob and Andrew).

Ignore my whiteness. I am all about sunscreen and wrinkle prevention.

From the mouths of babes...

Jacob- Mom when I opened my drawer there were tons of socks and underwear and all the really good jammies.

Yeah kid I know I have been behind...

Slowly but surely the laundry is finally getting done.

and when I think I am almost done it will suddenly be full again. Maybe we should just wear swimsuits every single day and rinse them out at night at bath time. Then maybe the baskets would get empty and stay empty.

Not so leaping lizard...

Dylan the lizard has died. The children are upset. I am a mean mom because the hot sun was just too much (remember my outside rule). Lindsey is a bit of a drama queen and has posted this on her blog. It made me smile. It a private blog but this just made me laugh (after I paid my respects of course).

From Lindsey's blog...
Dylan died 6/21/08. He fell in love June 18th 2008. With a lizard named Sarah. after 3 days of marriage he died in the hot sun. On Monday his funeral will be held in the Reese Home. His viewing will not happen unless someone will pick him up.Invitations go to Reese family,Emily and her family, and Kara and if she wants to bring Ashley.Leave comments on my post for a response to come.
There are also hand made funeral programs for all who attend with a hand drawn portrait of Dylan, listed pall bearers, prayers, talks, and where to bring the flowers.

I have a feeling this is not the only lizard I will own...

Leaping Lizards...

I don't like pets. I don't want pets. But my kids are desperate for pets. So the other night when we went on a family hike (little walk really) Jacob and Alan caught a lizard. I approved his arrival on the condition that he lived and stayed outside ALL.THE.TIME. Dylan was very loved. The day after the lizard joined our family he went in a carrier to visit our cousin Andrew's lizard. After several hours my sister in law Lisa called frantic. Dylan has escaped and was loose in her house. I was horrified for her. To teach her son a lesson she made Jacob take their lizard, Alex home. Upon arriving home with Alex Jacob was horrified. He hated taking his cousins lizard and told me, "I broke Andrew's heart". Alex was placed outside (no lizards loose in this house). After an hour and a lot of tears from Lindsey we went out to check on our visitor (we could never keep him) he was gone. I was horrified. I had to call my sister in law and admit that we had now lost her lizard. She told me that her husband was up trying to catch a replacement lizard for Jacob. After all this drama Alan arrived home and I told him the whole long sorted story. He goes outside and immediately finds Alex the lizard barried deep in the sand in the cage! He was there all the time! Before I could call Lisa my phone rang, she had just found Dylan on top of a decorative thing of wheat. It took her some guts to catch him and get him contained without actually touching him (yuck). Both lizards are now safe and all owners are happy. No more visiting will be permitted and the no inside rule is firmer than ever.

Family fun day...

Every year the neighborhood is invited to a family fun day. It's a very fun and very busy day...

First there was a parade...

Then some hanging out in the hot sun...

and there was lot's of sliding, getting wet, and fun in the sun...

( Yeah I was a little shocked to see my little one going down that top slide)

at the end of a long day they were ready to head home (see the sad face). I about fainted when I saw the girls face painting (all over), they used permanent and staining acrylic paints. I was NOT wanting that on their clothes!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We celebrated Father's day. I feel so lucky to be married to not only a wonderful husband but an amazing Father.

My 300th post contest and game...

I played this game on the very first post when I met Cecily and really enjoyed it. Angie did it too and I loved it again. It's a great way to get to know new blog friends so pay attention.

First off I will start our with a random list of things about myself. Most people do a 10o but even while playing with this list for a few weeks I just don't think I have that much to say about myself.
So here's how it will work . Comment. If you are not commenting now this is the time to come out of lurkdome and do it. I am hoping to see some new readers in this process. In your comments give me something about YOU that maybe those of us in the bloggy world don't know. Those comments will serve two purposes:

** The Drawing!!! One week from today June 20th I will pick a random number and I'll send the winner two shades t-shirts.
our signature style. seamless cap sleeve. Scoop neck. flat merrow stitch on neck and arms. meant to layer. snug fit.
95% cotton/5% spandex machine wash.
I love these shirts and use them to layer under really low shirts or to have the really cute layered look. They are a staple in my wardrobe. Just tell me your size and I will mail them off.

**I'll re post the list with your little known facts so everyone can read about you instead of just me. That way it will be FAR MORE interesting.

Summer's Here...

Summer arrived. It began with sleeping late. No deadlines. Kids riding bikes and laughing outside. No deadlines. Later bedtimes. No homework. It began moving towards... Loud arguments. Millions of paper cups all over my kitchen. Doors slamming ALL.DAY.LONG. Kids inside my house all the time, no quiet ever. Meals needing to be prepared endlessly. Mess everywhere. I began to feel like I was going a little nuts. It was only day 4 of summer. So I got smart and called for some professional help. Cleaning help that is. Rosie used to clean weekly when the twins were babies. Sadly I had to give her up. Every once in a while (not often enough) I get desperate and call for help. She came on Tuesday. She arrived at 10am and her and I worked all day and I do mean all day and got my house in shape. I shooed my kids outside. Rosie left and I sat down and felt at peace again. Best money spent in a long long time!

Unfortunately the night before while at the gym I did something weird to my back. Not being a very normal person I ignored the pain and swept, vacuumed and carried many large heavy baskets of laundry up and down and down and up. So by night I was in pain. Today having my priorities straight I tried to rest it (it was killing me). I did everything I could to not lift, bend or push anything. Which proves difficult around my house. Tonight was girls night and I did not want to miss out. I have priorities. So in pain and very sore I visited 8 home show houses, all beautiful and inspiring. Most of them I focused abnormal amounts of time on the chairs thinking of the relief they would provide my painful back. Again I have my priorities. Ha ha.

Loud, messy or tiring I still love summer. I love seeing my kids smile. The freedom. No big deadlines. We just need to work on reducing our paper cups, closing doors quietly, and outside play time from 2-3pm. Thank goodness for Arts in the park (mon and wed 10-12 for Jacob and Lindsey and swimming lessons).

How is your summer going?

Byrce Canyon...

A little behind here...

I told you we went away the weekend before my Grandma's funeral. Here are the pictures. Bryce Canyon (another National Park) is a truly unique and beautiful place. The weather was crisp but that made it easier to hike and explore. We just dressed warmer. When we arrived we were lucky to take a two hour horse back riding adventure that took us through the canyon (Thanks to the babysitting of the little ones). What a great experience that was. Lindsey was over the moon...

Grandpa bought each Grandchild an animal. They were thrilled.

Top Vacation memories...
The food. Who knew that a lodge could have such amazing food!
The cabin and moonlight on my face all night.
Being awakened in the morning with two tiny hands prying open my eyes saying, "wake up".
The 2 hr horse back ride.
The views.
Hailey tripping at a look out and sliding to the edge. The bar was low and she just smacked her face. Her toy fell to the bottom. This little event took me a couple hours to recover from. Thank goodness for low bars! Below is the picture before the fall.

Mommy moment...

After a long day, Kids in bed, I walked into the twins room to put some laundry away. Sydney requested I come lay with her. After a long exhausting routine of prayers, singing, getting water, going to the bathroom everything in me was screaming "No" but I decided to grant her request for a short moment. She began talking to me. She asked me how Great Grandma got to Heavenly Father and Jesus. Could she fly?, She asked. Was she sad? Did she cry? I told her no she was happy. She asked me if the fishes (that she saw when visiting her) had to go too. I reassured her they did not go. She asked me why she died and I told her she just got old. She told me then that she never wanted to get old and die she would be very scared. She did not want to be alone. Could I come with her? It was at this point I was able share a special gift, a wonderful truth. We don't have to be alone. We don't have to be scared. Jesus loved us so much he died for us so we could live with those we love forever. So we could be with our families forever. This made her very happy. I told her we need to always say Thank you for what Jesus did. It was one of those moments I almost missed. I was stunned to find out that all these thoughts were going on in my three year old's head, unsaid and not understood.

Tonight I am more grateful than ever for Jesus and his sacrifice and the knowledge that I will see my Grandma again. That she is not alone. That I have the opportunity to be those I love the most forever.

These was written on Sunday. I was not sure I would share it. I don't want to keep being a downer. Tonight she again asked me about my Grandma. She seemed shocked when I used the word Dead this time instead of died. She said, "she can't be dead she smiled at me from her chair while I was playing with the toys". It just broke my heart. I feel glad she is remembering her so vividly but it hurts all the same. All of my other children, including Hailey do not seem affected.

The end of an era...

My heart string are pulling. Today was the last day of Kindergarten. Jacob has come so far. He has learned to write, all his letters/sounds, and even read. It has been a great year. He has blossomed at school. All I can think about now is the summer being over and first grade. Going to school all day for Jacob. I thought being tied down to kindergarten would be a pain, and it is, but having Jacob home every day with us (in the mornings) has been amazing. He helps with the girls. I am not ready to let him go... With Lindsey I was naive to how quickly it all passes and I was a bit overwhelmed with the twins. It seems like yesterday she was the one in first grade and she will be in fourth grade next year! I know all to well how fast this all goes. So today I am feeling like an extra hug from my big boy.

Jacob threw the football to his Grandpa for the talent show
Jacob and his teacher. He is now missing his top two teeth and his bottom two teeth.
