Flash back Friday...

Bad mommy award

About three years ago...

Heading the mall, pouring rain, three kids along for the ride. Jacob (2) and Sydney and Hailey (8 months) that alone would make for a bad day right? Arrive while on the phone (not paying close attention I am sure). Get out in the rain (pouring remember) go to open the door to get kids out and I discover to my horror locked doors. I panic, really panic. I was parked near a door so I ran inside to a info booth and ask her to call security and tell her what was going on (I could see my car from inside). The little lady looks about 90. She becomes greatly concerned (she should be) and begins to say that the kids are going to run out of air in the car. She keeps repeating this worry (instead of calling security) over and over. Run out of air, what? There is plenty of air in a car lady. I go back out to the rain (offering many desperate prayers) and tell Jacob what is going on. He seems to think he can get out and open the doors. So to my shock and jubilation he unbuckles his car sear and is able to somehow figure out how to unlock the doors! I was thrilled, grateful, and in tears! He never was able to get out of the seat on his own after that or open the locked doors... I went home after I reassured the lady that my kids were fine and had not run out of air. Crazy lady who did not help at all. Before you turn me in and think to bad of me I want to reassure all of my blog readers that all this took place in less than 5 minutes, a very long 5 minutes.

Tip... I now never lock my doors by hand. I always use the remote to do it, this way I know I have my keys in hand.

This is the one and only time I have locked my keys in my car (my entire life). Not the best time to do it though.

OMGoodness! I locked Charlotte in the car once at a store. It was the worst 15 minutes of my life. I stood outside the window where Charlotte sat all buckled up in her seat holding Addison crying. People must have thought I was a nut job while I waited for AAA. At least the car was on with the AC running so I didn't have to worry about her running out of air :)

I gave myself worst mom of the year award.

I couldn't imagine the horrible feeling that would create! I am not sure Lauren could do that at 4 yrs now, let alone when she was 2! Prayers work...maybe the desperation of the little old lady's cries that the children would run out of air was heard too. Glad everyone survived all right-and that it hasn't happened again.

I locked my oldest in the car & it was hot outside & I was freaking out! We had just bought our car & after you start the car it automatically locks. I ended up having to call the fire department, talk about embarrassing!!!

We totally have/had the auto door locks too. So when I started the car they locked all the doors. So its easy to get out and accidentally lock them in. UGH!

I still laugh at the running out air thing though. Anyone else ever heard anyone say that? It's totally out there. I mean how would you be able to drive and not run out of air then?

I don't think that makes you a bad mommy just a human one. We've all done stuff like that at one time or another.

Looks like you got the blog decorating to work! good to see...

That would be traumatic - for mommy at least - for sure! I am so glad that Jacob was able to save the day! Amazing how those things seem to happen right when you need them to!

Oh Laura, that is the worst! I am so happy that Jacob saved the day. One day you will tell Jacob that story and he will savor every minute of it. The things that a mommy goes through.
My next door neighbor was not so lucky- she locked her two year old Billy & keys in the car(a mercedes)- She ran in her house to call the number to unlock the car, because she has that system built in her car- the woman on the phone told her she could not do it because the permission papers were never signed! And then asked if she would liked them faxed to her?! Can you believe it? I was outside gardening, when I heard her yelling, I ran over and tried to make billy smile while she called 911- 10 minutes later Billy was out. There were three huge fire trucks in front of my home- scary moment for all of us.

That is why I love having the buttons on my door. If the kids lock themselves in I just put in the code and open it.
As for making a header. The program I use is
Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Designer. It's a cd program that is basically an EASY photoshop. It's nothing too fancy but it gets the job done. You can find them on ebay for around 6-7 bucks. And I just use all the free kits that I find from shabby princess ikeagoddess. I also use the scribe template and change a bunch of the HTML. Melissa does this also from are you serious. If you need any more info you can email me @ rberry@eoni.com

That lady was crazy! LOL Running out of air? How does she think water gets in when a car goes under water? Too funny!

You are not a bad mommy! I have done this before (when joseph and Emma were 2 and 6 months). I called Michael to come bring me the other set of keys, and forgot to tell him which corner of teh intersection I was at! I was at a strip mall. Thankfully the car was running since it was summer time in FL.

Scary! I always use the remote to lock the doors too- even though by now my kids are all old enough to get in and out on their own. And what's with the old lady thinking they'd run out of air!? Weird!

OOOOOOOhhhhh Your page looks awesome. I love your header. Its all fantastic!

The crazy things that happen to us as parents. And the less than brilliant things we do sometimes. I'm all over that! But you are not a bad mom!

Have to giggle about the little old lady. NOT helpful! And I can laugh because it worked out perfectly! Someday I want OnStar, so I can call up to the cosmos and have them let me into my own car! Brilliant!
