Today I had a plan. My plans were going well. One parent teacher conference down, gym. Afternoon came and I got the kids from school (early day) and got the twins down for a nap. I then began mounds of laundry. I got my load in and dried and folded. Began cleaning bathrooms while another load began when all of the sudden the power went out (its 3:30). No big deal it will pop on in a few minutes or so... but it didn't. Hours later it didn't. Can't clean, can do laundry (and its full of water too), can't computer, ipod is out of batteries and can't charge that, can't shower (which was the worst) or get ready. So there I sat in total silence (kids were outside playing). Clocks tick loud in this house by the way. 2 more hours past and I getting annoyed because I did not want to go looking so bad to Parent Teacher conferences (but I did). Now its 7pm and its mighty dark and cold too. It's then I regret my lack of emergency light. I mean sure I have food supply (need more) and I could cook we have gas stove and gas bbq and a gas fire place. But I can only find one working flash light and thats is pretty dark. In my defense I do buy flashlights but my kids steal them all the time. Just last night Sydney slept with one (could not find that one). I talked to my friend Michelle and she is fine they have several lanterns and flashlights and they are cooking outside. I have some work to do.
Power returns around 8pm. Missed Survivor and American Idol too (bah). Really not that big of a deal if your prepared.

♥ My flashlights disappear too... Tons of candles though! That stinks that it was our for so LONG!!! Glad to hear it's up and running again though!
Oh how I hate power induced change of plans......:)
OH NO WAY! that is not fun! seriously horrible. we have a lack of flashlights too. but the ones i do have are crank style ! love em. not that fun for the kids and you don't need batteries. so they stick around. and i have boat loads of candles. but getting cold would rot. and cooking out would not be that fun either. helps you figure out what you need to get in order. i should stockpile more useful stuff too. glad it came back on and you survived.
I always go into a panic when the power goes off. I am so unorganized I have no CLUE where any flashlights or matches are (I have scented candles all over the place, but if you don't have matches they don't help) when that happens!!
I'm glad it came back on before it got too late and cold. :)
Ack! I hate it when the power goes out. We used to live in a home where when it would storm the power would go out for days...I so don't miss that at all.
That is the worst! Makes you realize how much we rely on electricity!
My power unexpectedly went out the afternoon of my 10 year reuinion. I had to drive downtown and get ready at my sister's. I certainly couldn't go to my 10 year reunion without a shower and blow dry!
Glad you're back in business!
That stinks! And you were on a roll too. Amazing when the power is out and you realize how much you actually use it!
I HATE it when the power goes out. Our goes out all the time, this last time a couple months ago & it was out for 15+ hours. And in the dead of winter no less. SOO FREAKING COLD! Our house got down to 55. I blogged about it of course. I have a ton candles crank flashlights.
I need to work on my food supply in a bad way. If something happened we could eat for oh maybe 3 weeks. Terrible huh? Looking forward to your March 11th post. :)

I feel your pain. I returned from getting Joseph from preschool (3:40pm) to find that the garage door would not open. So I went inside and found the power out, but my nieghbor across the street said she had power, so I checked the circuts and they were all fine. So then I called the power company and the message said they were aware of the problem and hoped to have it fixed by 8:00pm. My mother in law was coming to watch the boys while I went to parent teacher confrence and so I called her to let her know there would probably not be power. She said that was fine and she would bring pizza. (big thanks to her). After we returned from the school the house was starting to get cooland dark. WE have two batterie powered lanterns but Emily and Joe kept fighting over them. So we called the power company again and the estamated time had been changed to 9:00pm. The kids were going stir crazy so we decided to go to my in laws until bed time. The one frustrating thing for me is that we have digital phone and that does not work when the power is out. Luckily I have a cell phone and it was charged. In all of the frustration it was interesting to me the things my kids came up with to do while it was still light, and how much we really use power for everything.
Oh, yuck! We totally missed the entire outage being at my mom's house all day. I am sorry you had to go to a parent/teacher conference unshowered...I am sure the teacher didn't even notice, but I feel your frustration there! Hopefully, you'll find a few of your flashlights while you have some lights on.
I hate it when the power goes off....it never used to bother me before I had kids, but now it throws the whole household out of whack! We were scrambling for flashlights, candles and matches too! I ended up using the girl's Elmo flashlight.
I'm sorry...there's nothing worse than a plan gone awry!!!
It stinks when the power goes out! I am so sorry, you seemed like such the trooper though!
We are always searching for flashlights- however I have my own little stash. Mr.Wonderful's diving light is awesome!
So sorry that happened Laura!
How frustrating. I am sure I would never be able to find any of our flashlights if our power went out. When I was living in NY we had a big power outage that took out a big chunk of the city for a day or more and that was fun because work got canceled... but pretty much any other time it is just plain horrible.
Ugh! I hate that for you. I hate having to go anywhere especially a parent/teacher conference unshowered! We have the same flashlight issue in our house. Or if I can find the flashlights the batteries are dead. But I do keep tons of candles and those lighter thingys.
