Virtual reality...

So summer's here and the kids are busy fighting playing. Their latest fights are always about virtual games. Yesterday it was Lindsey decorating Jacob's Build a Bear room black with pink hearts. Totally rad for her but Jacob was NOT happy. The other day Jacob had a friend over (who shall remain nameless). This kid was totally going nuts to use my computer and saying nuts puts it mildly. I was being threatened by a 6 yr old because his webkinz pet needed care. Seriously?

So I set limits. My kids are in love with...
Webkinz
Pirates online
and Build a bear world.

We haven't been able to use Webkinz lately We keep getting a message about the site not being available.

I know what you mean. My kids like to play on different websites so there is always a fight about who's turn it is.

my kids like those and Toon town. and beanie babies online. it's ridiculous!

i had a friend do that same thing to me over webkinz, i told her she could do that at home.

my kids have to do a chore first before computer time, and 30 minutes outdoor play daily. then they supposedly get 30 minutes of time.

BUT best rule i ever made up, if anyone hits or fights over computer time they loose their privileges that day, even if they just earned them. also if they are fighting about anything else, hit, tattle to me or whine, they loose the privilege, and so does anyone involved. it used to be just the one that hit, now it's both just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. it's awesome! and they have figured out, if i don't hear about the fight or meanness, they don't miss out. it's cutting way back on tattling. win win for me.

good luck with those limits! I keep setting them, and then I keep needing the computer-as-babysitter, and the limits go out the window...
I gave my bigger kids a whole long list of 'education-game' sites a few weeks ago, and told them they could only play those. And that seemed to work, so far.

Gotta have limits! My summer rule is that they have to have their chores done and read for a half hour before video games or computer.

Good for you to set limits, that's what keep them in check or so we can hope!

I seriously cannot believe how involved some of these games are for these little guys. We are not at that age yet but I know it's only a matter of time. The sad thing is I'll have to share my blogging time with a webkinz pet needing virtual care? Really?

Have a good one-

My kids are all about the wii and webkinz. It's crazy to see how they can become addicted even so young. Limits are a must!!

My kids only get a 1/2 hour at a time with any media...I am really strict about it, it will probably bite me you know where later!!!
