Nothing quite like a good book...

I have recently finished several good books (either listened on my ipod or read).

I already raved about Twilight here and then went on to read New Moon and Eclipse. I liked Twilight so much I reread it (partly because I felt I missed a lot listening in my ipod- and I did). Breaking Dawn will be out next week and I can't wait. I highly recommend these as good easy reads. Totally fun.

A thousand splendid suns. This is a really wonderful book. While a lot of it is a little hard to read (meaning it was harrowing). I found it so interesting and educational. I really felt I finished the book and knew a lot more about another place in the world. My perspective on life had changed.

The Host. This book is another book by the author of Twilight. I wasn't sure at first if I could like it as it seemed to have a very science fiction plot. I am here to tell you that the girl that hates Star Wars and Star Trek (hiding now) loved this book. I liked it almost as much as Twilight. If not for different reasons. Wonderful read. Stephenie Meyer has such an amazing imagination. Her descriptions and stories are truly spellbinding. I highly recommend this one.

The Kite Runner (by the same author as A Thousand Splendid suns). This book like his other book is truly heart breaking and amazing at the same time. Since some of the book was set in California where I grew up I felt I could imagine being there and seeing what they were experiencing. It really changed my whole perspective on so many things. I had no idea what was going on as I was growing up in California and my only worries were going the mall and sleeping late. I feel lucky to have read this book and realized, even if only in a small part, how very blessed my life has been. The world can be a very different place than the happy experiences I have been dealt.

Sadly when I listen or read I find myself always anxious to finish a book to know the end but dreading it to be over. It's hard for me to finish a great book and then get into another. Anyone else have that problem?

I also have to give a shout out to the local library. If you haven't taken advantage of your library lately you are missing out. I love my ability to go online and search for book, put them on hold and then wait for an email saying its in. When my book arrives I just go to a shelf, pick it up. I also receive emails reminding me of its due date. The Electronic world makes this so much easier. It makes me so happy to get so many books on cd (for my ipod) and to read for free. What a wonderful resource this is.

Thank you for the book reviews! I love a good book too. I lean towards the sci-fi fantasy myself! But I also enjoy reading historical fiction. Have you heard of goodreads.com? You should check it out. It is a site were you can list all of the books you've read or listened too and write a review, recommend it. You can list books your are planning to read and that you are currently reading. I just recently discovered it. It is kinda fun to sit back and think of the books that you've read.

i feel the same way when i finish a good book. especially a good series!! i get so dissapointed knowing that i won't get to spend more time with these characters, and i'm often thinking about them as i start in to a new book.
i'm also a big fan of the public library. i love that i can renew online, if i just can't get in to return a book on time.

I just started Twilight and really enjoy it already. With the exception of this series I've read the other books and would recommend them too. I love having a great friend with like literary tastes.

I LOVE my local library. One of my favorite resources.

I LOVE the local library too! And, I do mean love. It reminds me of one of your posts a while back about things you could not do without. I could not live without the library. With my hour and a half round trip commute every day, audio books are my lifeline. As you know, I also love actually reading books even more. A recent favorite that I haven't told you about yet is "And Only to Deceive" by Tasha Alexander. It's a mystery set in Victorian England, and I really enjoyed it. Anyway, another to add to your list of possible reads.

Like you, it's a hard thing for me to balance needing to know what happens and not wanting it to end. There's a "point of no return" though where I just have to give up on stretching out the enjoyment and find out what happens.

Loved the Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Sons....even though they weren't very easy to read.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who gets bummed when they get to the end of a book they are really enjoying.

Without the library I would never be able to afford to read as much as I do. I think they just about know me by name over there....

Thanks for the reviews and recommendations! I'm finishing one Angie suggested, tonight. The Memory Keepers Daughter.

I love our library, too! The only drawback is that our town is very small, so the books on tape selections are minimal.

I think I'll start the Twilight book next.

So tomorrow I am off to get a book on your recommended reading list. I loved the Kite Runner. I read it in 2 days. I could not put it down. I totally have the same problem about finishing a book. I am so anxious to get to then end however hate wen I get there knowing that story has ended.

And thanks SO much for your support on my post. I keep taking them hoping it will get better. I know it will...eventually. They are so happy to play and have fun but they HAVE to have me in sight. And they ask me a million times "See me mommy?" I think it has actually gotten a bit worse since I have been off work with them the past 3 months. I am really worried to think how they will do when I go back in September. Well since I just filled your comment section up I will go but thanks for the encouragement. It really means a lot. :)

Thanks for this post Laura, You were the one that finnally got me to read the Twilight series and I am excited to get the new book next week. I am always looking for something fun to read , but never have a lot of time to search. I also hate wasting my time on bad books. I am also a big fan of the public library and being able to put things on hold. I have to say though, I don't use it enough.

This is really sad to admit, but I do not know where the library is in my city. I also don't know where the high school is. Isn't that awful!!

Thanks for the reviews. It always helps when someone has read that book and says "yes, read it". My favorite are books that I can't put down. I have a problem putting them down too. I get sad when I read a series and then I have read them all. I also feel like I want to meet the characters in real life.

If you like book series try Allison Brennan. The series is the hunt, the kill... or speak no evil, hear no evil, etc. Those were great fun books to read.

I've been wanting to read The Kite Runner for a while now, glad you recommended it.

I understand what you are saying about wanting to finish but dreading the ending at the same time. I have the hardest time not skipping to and reading the LAST page before I get there! It takes a lot of self control! I love to read.

I wish I had more time to read and or finish a book. I am a magazine fiend though! I will pass this along to my dedicated book reading friends!
