Jacob had his Kindergarten appointment on wednesday and with that he got his kindergarten shots. He's a big boy at 75% for weight and height. He did great with everything, but when he woke up the next morning he was so sore he thought he could not walk. Problem was we had swim lessons that morning (we have swim lessons every week for almost the whole summer). Anyway, to get him to get in the pool because I knew moving the legs would help loosen him up I promised a trip to the dollar store (I hate going there). So... later that night just as promised I headed to the dreaded dollar store. We were just running in and so I used bad judgment and did not bring the twins in the stroller. Grandpa takes them there all the time walking and they were not interested in any other method. Anyway, the minute we walk in Sydney and Hailey find a sand bucket and proceed to walk down every aisle filling it with stuff. I am desperately trying to put it back as fast as they take it out. UGH Finally we are checking out and Sydney is going bonkers she wants everything in site, and I cannot give it to her. As we are walking out (I am carrying 3 bags of hand sanitizer for gifts for the NICU can you say heavy) Sydney won't come. She is on the floor screaming for something blue. I am barley able to hold my bags and the other kids and she is not letting up. I keep threatening her and am just unable to get this situation under control when some lady walks up and says, "My daughter has 6 month old twins, does it get easier"? Ha ha Does she seriously want my opinion on that right then and that moment? I wanted to scream NO NO NO... but decided to say depends on when you ask me? LOL Might have been better to offer to carry my bags so I could get the screaming toddler, huh?

haha, just so you know, i am laughing with you not at you! :) i think most of us have had this very same situation, although i have not had someone ask if it got easier at that moment..lol. i think you handles the situation quit nicely. i think i would have asked if i could help, especially since i have twins and know what it is like trying to carry one and get the ptehr to follow when she doesn't want to. jordan got his shots last year when he went to preschool thank goodness! he too complained of being very sore and tight. i hope things go a little better this week!
I totally know what you mean (and can't imagine having two Isaiah's and getting out of any store! So I feel for you!) Elijah has his shots in a few weeks for school. I haven't told him - I think I'll just wait and let him find out at the appointment so he won't have to dread it. Do you think that seems mean?
I think your reply to her question was right on target!
Steph,
I don't think that mean I think that best. I think fear is a powerful thing and would make it worse. I didn't mention anything to Jacob at all. The doctor dropped the bomb at the end of a nice appointment. He went nuts and was terrified. The nurse came in and quickly it was all over. If he had been anticipating it all I think it would have been much worse on both of us. After all us mommies hate it too! We got him (not me) a frosty when it was all over, and he loved that part! I used to promise Lindsey a toy at target after and soon she was wanting shots to get toys, LOL! Jacob seems pleased with more simple things and the more kids I have the more I think keeping rewards more simple is best. Although a toy is worth making the whole experience o.k too!
Did I tell you about my grocery shopping fiasco last week? Garrett sat down on the floor and wouldn't move......I can't even remember why and then one of the twins snatched a carton of blueberries as I was walking by and threw it on the floor. Blueberries everywhere........so, I DO feel for you.....talk about breaking a sweat! :) It was so nice of that lady to stop and chat while things were under control. ha ha. Glad Jacob's shots are done. I had Emma's done last year so we wouldn't have to bother with them this year....too bad Jacob was so sore. Poor thing.
Oh, I hate those situations. The great thing about NYC though is that lots of times people will jump in and help...I think b/c we are just used to being around strangers a lot...we just help each other. Next time someone approaches you like that just say:
Seriously?
You mean it doesn't get easier when they are toddlers? Oye vey...
Oh my! This is how my Little Miss at Target. HAS to walk and is into everything - especially the dollar section in the front!! I feel your pain!
that is hilarious. what timing that lady had! (people are dumb).
